Summer camps are opportunities to step forward in the audition process as well as shoot REEL on set. This is the first year where Tess will be incorporating four days of acting for camera with a shoot day ending in reel copy for the actors to use professionally. The camps are four hours per day, with a short break for lunch. Dates are July 21 to 26, Tuesday through Sunday (4 hours a day, times will vary). Six week class!
We are starting a NEW program! The Ongoing now begins focusing on SCENE STUDY as well as continued SCRIPT BREAKDOWN so that the actor’s life in the STORY is developed. Actors start with cold-reading, develop their story through script analysis and scene study and then go back to the camera to apply this scene work to the audition process. Casting Director comes in on Week Six to watch the actors reveal their stories on Camera. The summer is usually a good time to pursue new representation. This year is a strange one, given the SAG negotiations and the economy. Nonetheless, if you feel that you are “sitting on your hands” and must DO something, get aggressive. Submit to agents of interest and follow up. Submit yourself for projects that you see online. Get involved in University films and theatre. Take a class.
I coach a lot of young actors and am often asked the question “How should I do this?”
or “How should I say that line?” Giving an actor OF ANY AGE a line read is in my mind, a huge disservice. There are a million ways to tell a story (to approach the sides). What will separate an actor in the CD’s office is not getting it “right” but telling it from the actor’s own unique perspective. The CD doesn’t know how it should “sound”; he or she wants to go on a journey. The CD wants to be transcended; to travel with the actor. |
